Don’t forget that between Thursday and Friday we are going to celebrate the ‘Castanyada’.

The ‘Castanyada’ is a popular fiesta and it is celebrated on the All Saints Eve. This is related with the harvest of the fruit that has its name, the chestnuts, and with the autumn. For this reason, since from some weeks ago, we can already enjoy this celebration buying some toasted chestnuts at the stands which are situated in some streets of the city.

And, which is one of the most important thing that usually goes with this popular celebration? The gastronomy. Panallets, toasted chestnuts, sweet potatoes, candied fruit… accompanied -that’s only for adult people and you should take it with moderation- by the typical drink of this season, muscatel.

A big meal worthy for sharing with family and friends.

And in order to keep up the fiesta, you should sing the famous song ‘La Castanyera’-the woman who sells chestnuts-:

Quan ve el temps de menjar castanyes

la castanyera, la castanyera,

ven castanyes de la muntanya,

a la plaça de la ciutat;

la camisa li va petita,

la faldilla li fa campana,

les sabates li fan cloc-cloc

i en ballar sempre gira així.

When it’s time to eat chestnuts

the chestnut seller, the chestnut seller,

she sells chestnuts from the mountain,

at the square of the city;

she wears a small shirt,

she wears a bell skirt,

the shoes make cloc-cloc sounds

and when she is dancing she always spin like this.
